Red and white ink printed on a black No Sweat (UK) organic cotton hooded sweatshirt with zipper. Solidarity Forever on the front and the Eric Drooker designed General Strike black cat image on the back.
No Sweat only sources material from factories with strong workers rights, and works closely with trade unions on the ground to make sure clothes are made by workers that have democratic control of their work.
No Sweat began life in the November 2000 as a campaign against sweatshop labour, both overseas and in the UK, and quickly became a national network of campaigners around the country operating under one banner. No Sweat operated as a broad-based campaign bringing together Marxists and anarchists, with Labour Party leftists, trade union militants and activists from various other backgrounds to work together for common goals. Emerging from the anti-globalization movement at the turn of the century, No Sweat put class issues and workers rights at the centre of the debate around the extreme conditions of exploitation that were being reported in countries around the world.
Between 2012 and 2016, No Sweat took a hiatus as many of our activists became heavily involved in campaigns against the Tories austerity policies in the UK, but by 2016 we began to reconvene and take stock of what needed to be done. This has led to a refreshed effort to build solidarity with workers groups around the world that are not necessarily being given a voice by other groups that rely on external funding. We have revived relationships with other campaign groups from the early 2000s and made new ones with groups that want to take united action. We also took the step of putting our money where our mouths are and launched our own ‘T-shirt Project’ to try and take on the exploitation in the garment industry from the inside and create a new revenue stream for independent trade unions.
