Cindy Milstein & Erik Ruin (Paths toward Utopia), Brooklyn, New York

When: Friday, February 15 2013 @ 07:00 PM - - 09:00PM
Contact: Interference Archive
Where: 131 8th St
Brooklyn, NY

Nothing is more romantic than utopia, even on the night after Valentine's Day!

In a talk and slide show, Cindy Milstein and Erik Ruin will draw from their new collaborative picture-essay book Paths toward Utopia: Graphic Explorations of Everyday Anarchism (PM Press, 2012; foreword by Josh MacPhee) along with other visions to offer various angles on how people have tried to answer the question, “What does utopia look like?”

They encourage audience members to bring their own utopian image (borrowed or made) to share and discuss.

Cindy Milstein, an Occupy Philly participant for its first six months, is an Institute for Anarchist Studies collective member, author of Anarchism and Its Aspirations (AK Press), and coauthor of the forthcoming Paths toward Utopia: Graphic Explorations in Everyday Anarchism (PM Press). She has been involved in a variety of anarchist projects, ranging from the Don't Just (Not) Vote campaign and Renewing the Anarchist Tradition conference to the New World from Below convergence space to Black Sheep Books and Station 40 collectives.

Erik Ruin, is a printmaker, shadow-puppeteer, and occasional maker/editor of various publications, including the anthology Realizing the Impossible: Art against Authority (coedited with Josh MacPhee, AK Press, 2007). He frequently works collaboratively with other artists or activist campaigns, and has created imagery for urban farming and prison abolition groups. He is a founding member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative and resides in Providence.
